The Board of Local 22 regrets to announce the death of Local 22 Brother and Philadelphia Fire Department Lieutenant Derrick Harvey today.
Brother Derrick succumbed to injuries he suffered while operating on Box 4465, 9th St. and Lindley Ave., on January 9, 2004.
Lieutenant Harvey was a member of Squrt 72, located at 1127 W Louden Street in the Logan section of the City. Brother Derrick was 45 years old at the time of his death and a fourteen year veteran of the PFD. Lieutenant Harvey is the 275th member of the Department to make the ultimate sacrifice since the founding of the PFD in 1871.
At 45 years of age, Lieutenant Derrick Harvey's time here with us was much to short. He will be remembered as a giver, teacher, leader, counselor, cook, and most of all a great man.
Derrick was a "fireman's fireman". Those who knew Lieutenant Harvey will surely recount the many selfless deeds and great advice that he always seem to be ready to give without notice.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, the members of Suqrt 72, and the entire fire fighting family.
