Deputy Brian Tephford, 34, a six-year veteran of the Broward Sheriff's Office, died after being shot during a traffic stop while working a special detail in Tamarac. Responding to Deputy Tephford's call for back-up, Deputy Corey Carbocci arrived on-scene to assist. Shortly thereafter, both deputies were fired upon. Neither deputy had a chance to fire his weapon.
